| Visa
Information |
No
visa is required for nationals of the
following countries, who intend to stay
in Malta for up to 3 months: Council of
Europe member states, most Commonwealth
countries, UK dependencies and the following
states: Andorra, Argentina, Chile, Croatia,
Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, , Hungary,
Israel, Japan, Republic of Korea, , Latvia,
Libya, Lithuania, Monaco, Morocco, Poland,
, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, , Tunisia,
USA (including Northern Marianas), Uruguay
and the Vatican City.
As from the 1st October 2002, the nationals
to the following countries require a visa
to enter Malta: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas,
Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Dominica,
Fiji, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Kenya,
Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Maldives, Mauritius,
Nauru, Papua New Guinea, St. Kitts and
Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the
Grenadines, Seychelles, Solomon Islands,
Swaziland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad and
Tobago, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Western Samoa,
Zambia, Kuwait, Northern Marianas, Saudi
Arabia and South Africa (from 24th October
2002).
Special
provisions:
Zimbabwe
nationals require a visa to enter Malta.
Macao
citizens in possession of a "Regio
Administrativa Especial de Macao"
Passport do not require a Visa.
Egyptian,
Tunisian, Turkish and Moroccan nationals
would require a visa as from 1st January
2003, whilst from the same date, Algerian
nationals will have to start paying
for the Visa to Malta.
With
effect from 1st June 2002, Chinese nationals
who are holders of Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region (SAR) passports
shall no longer require a visa to enter
Malta.
As
from 1st October 2002, persons who are
in possession of a British Overseas
passport (BOC) or a British National
Overseas (BNO) Passport require a visa
to enter Malta, whilst nationals of
Bulgaria and Romania will no longer
require a visa to enter Malta.
Persons
from other countries, before entering
Malta, need to apply for an Entry or
a Transit Visa. The application for
a visa must be submitted before arriving
in Malta and should be forwarded to
a Maltese embassy/consulate (allowing
a minimum of 15 days for processing).
If
an applicant resides in a country where
no Maltese embassy/consulate exists,
the applicant should contact the Maltese
Central Immigration Office to obtain
the Visa application and other relevant
documents that might be required. The
applicant should also check that his
passport complies with the relevant
requirements.
Documents
needed for an application for a visa
include the completed application form,
2 passport size photos and a photocopy
of the passport.
When
processed, the Immigration Police will
issue a statement, which is faxed to
the applicant, indicating whether the
application is approved or not. In case
of approval, the applicant should present
the fax to the airline before proceeding
to Malta. He would then be issued with
a visa upon arrival in Malta. A fee
of approximately GBP25 is payable upon
issue.
Visitors
requiring an entry visa to Malta and
who undertake day trips (of less than
24 hours) to another country shall be
exempt from paying another entry visa
on their return to Malta.
